Associated Press is reporting:
PHILADELPHIA – The Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania has asked a court to remove a renegade priest from a suburban Philadelphia parish.
Church officials also petitioned the Montgomery County Orphans Court last week to declare the diocese as owner of the parish’s property.
The Rev. David Moyer has served as rector of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Rosemont since 1989. But he is a vocal critic of liberal trends in the Episcopal Church, and has barred diocesan bishops from preaching or conducting confirmation at Good Shepherd.
He was defrocked nearly seven years ago because of the rift. Yet he has refused to leave the rectory, and Good Shepherd continues to pay his salary.
Moyer and his attorney declined to comment Monday on the lawsuit.
But that is hardly the whole story. This, including the photograph, is from the Church of the Good Shepherd webiste:
The Right Reverend Dr. David Lloyd Moyer was called to Good Shepherd as Rector in 1989. This is his third rectorship after serving parishes in the Dioceses of New York, Albany, and Eastern Newfoundland and Labrador. Ordained to the Diaconate and Priesthood in 1976, he was consecrated as Bishop on February 16, 2005 at Good Shepherd. He now serves as Bishop of the Armed Forces for the Anglican Church in America of the Traditional Anglican Communion (TAC) and as Assistant Bishop of the Diocese of the Murray in the Anglican Church of Australia, a Province of the Anglican Communion. He also serves as the Episcopal Visitor for the TAC in England and as the American Commissary for Bishop Ross Davies of The Murray. The Bishop holds degrees from Whittier College, and Seabury-Western, New York, and Princeton Theological Seminaries. Bishop Moyer has been married for thirty-five years to the former Rita Hawkins, and they are the parents of three grown children, and have two grandchildren. The Bishop’s outside interests are reading theology, playing the drums, and auto racing.
