The Associated Press:
VATICAN CITY (AP) — The Vatican is protesting an Israeli television show in which it says Jesus and Mary were "ridiculed" and "blasphemed."
A statement from the Vatican press office Friday says its representative in Israel complained to the government about the show, broadcast on private Channel 10.
The program’s host attempted to humorously deny Christian beliefs — that Mary was a virgin and that Jesus walked on water — saying he could do so because Christians deny the Holocaust.
That was a reference to the Vatican’s recent lifting of the excommunication of a bishop who denies that 6 million Jews were killed during World War II.
The Vatican noted "with sadness" that such an offense could be committed against Mary and Jesus, two "children of Israel."
