A Moment When Being an Atheist Just Means Sucking It Up

Isaac Butler makes a valid point:

Is the moment when you realize that someone thinking the Earth is roughly 6,000 years old and denies the validity of science can be a vice presidential nominee, but not believing in God pretty much disqualifies you from the aforementioned office. It’s a weird time we life in, folks.

Not believing in God should not disqualify anyone for office. But it is how belief might effect governance that is the concern, not the belief of the individual. I suspect, indeed, that we should be concerned about electing a Creationist if that person is anything like Sarah Palin. I have no objection to an atheist holding high office. But I would be concerned by someone like P.Z. Myers just as much as I would by Palin.

Eh, PZ Myers? I don’t see why he would be brought up as an antithesis to Palin, someone like Hitchens would probably fit that role better. Why PZ in particular?
