Episcopalian Connection: Rev. Robert Certain and John McCain

Details on the invitation to the Rev. Robert Certain to give the invocation at the Republican National Convention from an interview by K Kaufmann in the The Desert Sun:

QUESTION: How did the invitation to give the invocation at the convention come about?

ANSWER: I got an invitation from the convention team a couple weeks ago.

John [McCain] was raised as an Episcopalian; he made a statement he is still an Episcopalian though he attends a Baptist church. There is the POW tie; there was my service to the Ford family and my service on the (Department of Defense) Defense Health Board. So all of those things are out there.

    Dear Fr. Certain,
I have always been a supporter of your Ministry—I am so proud to know you were invited to give the Invocation at the Republican Convention—I hope you were able to do so considering the changes, etc. Congratulations on your new position of Rector of St.Peter & St. James—best wishes to Robbie and I pray we elect the right person in November. My vote will go to Sen. McCain and Mrs. Palin—-My God guide them and also you. Choir begins next week and John has chosen Durafle’s “Requiem” for Chamber Singers–YEA!

    Sincerely, Lorri Davis
